This is a spear point style fighting knife made by Taylor of Sheffield, England during World War II. Taylor's "Eye Witness" was a private purchase fighting knife based off the Fairbairn Sykes style, and was popular with both British and American soldiers. The grip is made of stacked leather rings, that show plenty of wear, but are in very good condition. The brass crossguard is still very tight on the tang, as well as the brass pommel cap. The blade is double edged and retains it's full length. The polished blade now exhibits a nice steel gray patina to it. A slight median ridge is present in this blade. It still has some period sharpness to it! One side of the blade is stamped TAYLOR/SHEFFIELD/ENGLAND with an eye over WITNESS. This fighting knife is 11 1/4" inches overall and has a 6 3/4" inch blade. The leather scabbard shows plenty of honest wear, but is still very strong. It uses 14 brass pins to hold the two piece leather scabbard together. A belt loop is stitched onto the back of the scabbard, and the stitching is tight and unbroken. The scabbard is decorated with two WWII German shoulder board pips, so I'm pretty sure this one saw some action! This English made fighting knife would look great in any WWII fighting knife display!
