This is a clip point style side knife hand forged in East Tennessee in the mid 1800's. There are no makers marks or stamps anywhere on the knife. This rudimentary side knife is simple, yet has some cool eye appeal. The grip is made of a single piece of oak that looks to have been turned down. An iron ferrule has been installed near the blade, and shows how long the knife has been together. The iron has leeched into the wood all the way around the ferrule. There is no cross guard on the knife. The blade is single edged and terminates in a clip point. The hand forged blade has an aged, rusty brown patina to it. There is just a hint of the original bright finish showing here and there. This old East Tennessee side knife is 12" inches overall and has a 7 1/2" blade. This one walked into the shop from the local East Tennessee area but had no history with it. It would look great displayed with a Tennessee long rifle, a possibles bag and belt.
