Civil War Union General Orders No. 48 and No. 106

This is a pair of Union Civil War General Orders, Number 48 and Number 106. Both documents measure approximately 5" wide and 7" tall. They are both in very good condition. General Order Number 48 is from the War Department, Adjutant General's Office, Washington, and dated February 6, 1864. It is a listing of Non Commissioned Officers and Privates that were transferred from their Regiments to the Invalid Corps. The body of the order reads: The following named non-commissioned officers and privates, having been duly examined and declared unfit for further field service, but fit for duty in the Invalid Corps, are hereby transferred from their respective Regiments and Companies to the Invalid Corps, to take effect February 15, 1864, and from and after that date will be dropped from their Regimental rolls. Commanding Officers of Companies to which these men heretofore belonged will at once furnish the Provost Marshall General, at Washington, a descriptive list, clothing account, and complete military history in each case. The 28 page document goes on to name each soldier individually by full name, rank, company and regiment assigned. The list starts with soldiers from the state of Maine and ends with a soldier from Company B, 2nd United States Sharp Shooters. The back of the order reads: By order of the Secretary of War: E.D. Townsend/Assistant Adjutant General. This copy of the order is unsigned. General Order Number 106 is from the Headquarters of the Army, Adjutant General's Office, Washington and dated December 5, 1861. It is a listing of promotions Army wide from 1st Lieutenant up to Colonel. The body of the order reads: Promotions and appointments in the Army of the United States, made by the President since the publication of "General Orders" No. 68, of August 27, 1861. It goes on to list individual promotions from the different Army departments, then each regiment of Cavalry, Artillery and Infantry. This document is 62 pages, and is marked on the front page, "Rec Jany 8 1862" in period ink. Both documents are very legible, one being early war dated and the other late war dated. This will compliment any Civil War document collection.
