This is a Type 3 Chicom Type 65 aluminum canteen with carrier from the Vietnam War period. These Type 3 canteens and harnesses were produced during the 1960's. The aluminum body canteen is a darker green color, and retains nearly all of the original paint. The reddish brown bakelite cap still has the web retaining strap. There are Chinese characters still on the top of cap. The second type web carrier has a yoke that goes around the neck of the canteen. It is a khaki color and has adjustment buckles on the side and one to secure the canteen in the front. This is a very good example of a wartime canteen used by the North Vietnamese Army and the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War.
