This book was written by William B. Edwards, published in 1982, the narrative is 438 pages and is illustrated with black and white photos and illustrations. Willaim B. Edwards was a founder and technical editor of Guns Magazine and author of the authoritative book The Story of Colt's Revolver and other related works. he has divided this book into 36 chapters. It is not necessary to read them in consecutively, sequentially or in any particular order since each is devoted to a single subject or aspect of arms manufacture or acquisition. Several are studies of the great manufactures such as Colt's Goes To War, Remington: Prelude To War, The Starr Rises, The Rifles of Christian Sharps, and Enfield: The North's Second Rifle. The many lesser or more obscure manufactures are often combined into chapters with titles like Rifle Muskets: Civil War Scandals, Breechloaders of Chicopee, Yankee Revolvers, Long Arms For Lee, Sidearms for Southrons and others. All these contain much specific information for collectors about pieces they may own or covet, but it really in describing the scrabble for arms manufacture and obtaining them at any cost that the book is at it's most valuable from a historical standpoint. This hard back book is in very good condition, with a dust jacket in good condition.
