Parker Brothers 10 Gauge Double Barrel Top Lever Shotgun

This is a Parker Brothers side by side 10 gauge shotgun manufactured in Meriden, Connecticut. The shotgun has an overall length of 48 1/2", with barrel lengths of 32". The barrels, lockplates, trigger guard, butt plate and all other hard parts have a matching steel gray patina. The exterior of the barrels have a smooth, steel gray patina with some bluing showing. The rib between the barrels is stamped "PARKER BROS MAKERS. MERIDEN CONN.". The bores are moderately bright and have no rust or pitting present. A small brass bead sight is located 1/8" behind the muzzles on the barrel rib. The bottom of the barrels have several stamps on the flats. PATd JUNE 25, 1878/PAT'D APR 11, 1876 are on the top of the barrel flat. Below and forward of the patent dates is a + symbol. Stamped on the left side of the barrel lug is the serial number 35609. That serial number is also stamped on the watermark, and inside the fore end. The serial number reveals a production year of 1884. The rear barrel lug is stamped with the grade number 3 and J.S. Stamped on the lower side of the barrel flat are the numbers and letters C, L, 8 and 5. On the right side of the watermark are the stamps PATd APR.11.1876/" SEP.3.1872. The left side of the watermark is stamped with the grade #1, serial number 35609, and PATd MAR 16 1875. The lockplates are also have a very smooth appearance with the name PARKER BROS. engraved forward of the hammers. The mechanics of both locks function fine. Simple engraving is found on barrel rib and locks. A small inlaid silver shield adorns the top of the wrist. The oak stock is in good condition, and shows evidence of honest in the wrist area. The wrist is checkered, and shows the wear from considerable handling. This is an excellent example of an early Parker Brothers double barrel shotgun from the late 1800's.
