This is a Model 1892 Winchester carbine chambered in 38-40 Winchester Centerfire. The Model 1892 was produced from 1892 to 1941, with a production total of approximately 1,004,067. This Model 1892 Winchester is serial number 429090, putting it in a production year of 1908. The carbine measures 37 1/2" overall, with a 20" round barrel. The barrel and magazine tube still retain quite a bit of the bluing, while the receiver, lever, hammer and butt plate all have a matching steel gray patina. The bore is bright and has visible rifling. The barrel has three stamps, the Winchester proof mark and 38 W.C.F. are stamped near the breech. Forward of the rear sight on the top the barrel is stamped MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14 1884. The tang of the receiver is stamped in three lines, Model 1892/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK. Stamped on the top of the receiver near the barrel is another Winchester proof mark. The crescent shaped steel butt plate fits the stock like a glove. The walnut stock is in very good condition, with no stress cracks or wood loss anywhere. The barrel channel edges show wear from handling, but are still very crisp. The fore end has some carving on each side. On the left side ED TERRY, while the right side is carved TENNESSEE ED. This gun came out of Kansas, but apparently Ed Terry wanted everybody to now he was from Tennessee. Can't say as I blame him, I'm pretty fond of the place myself! The mechanics of this old Winchester operate flawlessly. Pretty sure this old Winchester centerfire lever gun will still put some lead down range! This Model 1892 Winchester will definitely add to your wild west collection!
