This is a percussion 16 gauge double barrel shotgun from the mid 1800's. The shotgun measures 54 3/4" overall, with 38 1/4" barrels. The bores are turning dark, but are still smooth very practically no pitting. LONDON FINE TWIST is stamped on the rib between the barrels. The lock plates are maker marked with the name HINTER. The hammers are engraved with what appear to be dolphins. The actions on this piece is still very crisp, both hammers locking in half and full cock positions. All the iron has a very even eye pleasing dark plum patina. The trigger guard, butt plate and ramrod thimbles are iron. They all have the same ornate floral etched designs. The nose cap and escutcheon plates are made of brass that have been silver washed. The walnut half stock is in good condition. There is no wood loss or cracks present anywhere. The stock has finely detailed checkering in the wrist area. There is a small compartment on the bottom of the stock with a very ornately engraved brass cover. Inside are several caps, but they are modern ones. The original ramrod is still with this beautiful weapon. Here is an opportunity to add to your black powder shotgun collection at a very affordable price!
