This is a copy of The Kingsport Times, a newspaper serving the northeast Tennessee Tri City area. It is a City edition and is dated 27 October, 1942. This is a 10 page edition, but pages 5 and 6 are missing. The headline for this Tuesday in 1942 reads, "Climatic battle rages In The Pacific." There are two photos on the front page, one showing Russian soldiers in the fight for Stalingrad, the other a photo of the US aircraft carrier USS Wasp that had been sunk on 15 September near the Solomon Islands. There are numerous articles on the front page that relate to the war, from the British fighting Rommel in the desert, the reported loss of one US aircraft carrier and a destroyer in the Solomon islands fighting, the loss of 17 Japanese ships in the same fighting, the Nazi fall back outside Stalingrad to the hometown eyewitness report of the sinking of the USS Wasp. The paper is in fair condition, showing some damage by insects and rodents along the right side and middle of the paper. The pages are slightly yellowed, but all text and images are perfectly legible. This would go great with your WWII documents collection.
