This book was written by Time Life, published in 1997, the narrative is 159 pages and is illustrated with black and white photos and drawings. Time Life published an eighteen book series on the Civil War using first hand accounts, diaries, documents and photographs to bring to life the Civil war from the perspective of the combatants as well as the civilians caught in these horrific battles. Here is the story of the Federals second attempt to take the Confederate capitol of Richmond. The entrenched Rebel forces mowed down wave after wave of advancing Federals. Finally, the Federal troops withdrew, with nothing to show for their effort but 12,653 casualties. This hard back book is in excellent condition, and the dust jacket is in very good condition.
