This is a group of relics recovered on private property near the Malvern Hill Battlefield in Henrico County, Virginia. There are seventeen bullets, mostly dropped .58 caliber three ringers, a couple of shot three ringers, a roller buckle, part of a small knife handle, a knapsack ring, and an iron pin or nail. The relics come in a riker case lined with red felt. The case measures 12 1/4" wide, 8 1/4" tall and 1" deep. On 1 July, 1862, approximately 54,000 Union soldiers under the command of Major General George B. McClellan, met 55,000 Confederate soldiers under the command of General Robert E. Lee at Malvern Hill, Virginia. This was the final battle of the Seven Days Battles during McClellan's Peninsula Campaign. It has been called a tactical victory for the Union. Union casualties were approximately 3000 wounded, killed or missing, while the Confederates suffered 5650 casualties. This is a very nice group of dug relics representative of the Seven Days Battles conducted by Robert E. Lee in 1862.
