This book was written by Edward W. Ellsworth, published in 1962 by the Massachusetts Civil War Centennial Commission of Boston, Massachusetts, the narrative is 46 pages and is not illustrated. This booklet is the third in a series to be published by the Massachusetts Civil War Centennial Commission for distribution throughout the schools of that Commonwealth. The purpose of these booklets was to make sure the younger generation was more acutely aware of the part taken by men and women of Massachusetts in the fight for freedom and the War to preserve the Union.
