This is a 75 mm shell case made into a piece of trench art. The shell is 13 1/2" long and made of brass. The head stamp reads AM LOT 103 BHCO around the outer part of the base cap and 75mm FG BH19 around the primer. This breaks down into a projectile for a 75mm Field Gun, Black Hills 1919, ammunition lot 103. 1 3/4" down from the lip of the case and extending 5 1/4" the case has been stippled and lettered 1919 in a straight line with AEF BROTHER lettering on an angle. A flower is also stamped on the line with the AEF relief. Below the lettering the case has been swedged for a very decorative appearance. The Allied Expeditionary Force was the American Army that deployed to France and served in WWI from 1917 through the end of the war in November 1918. It remained on occupation duty through 1919. While this one wasn't fired in anger, it is still a very cool piece of World War I history!
