This is a Type B, (milled) rear sight for a US M1 Carbine used during World War II. This type of rear sight, with an adjustment for windage, was used on late war production carbines. This sight is stamped PI on the right side, and would have been correct on an Inland carbine made after April, 1944 in the 5 million serial number range. This sight is also correct for a last production run of carbines by Saginaw Steering Gear in April, 1944. The sight retains the original parkerizing. Most of the carbines did not receive this upgrade until after WWII, about one in three were issued with this adjustable windage sight from 1944 through 1945.
