This is a .44 caliber short rimfire cartridge from the post Civil War era. The copper cased cartridge has a U head stamp for the Union Metallic Cartridge company. The case length is .626" with a projectile diameter of .434", with an overall length of 1.178". The projectile, a round nose, has an aged, light gray patina to it. The copper case has a beautiful bronze patina. These rounds were made for .44 caliber revolver and derringers. There aren't a whole lot of these rimfire cartridges floating around out there. If you have an ammunition collection, this one needs to be in it!
