This book was written by Isaac Hermann , published in 1911, the narrative is 275 pages and is illustrated with black and white drawings and photos. Born in the Alsace region of France, Isaac Hermann immigrated in 1859 to America and settled down in the state of Georgia. He became fast friends with his neighbors and was soon indistinguishable from the native southerners. After the bombardment of Ft. Sumter, when President Lincoln issued his call to arms for 75,000 soldiers to coerce the Southern Confederacy, Isaac gave up his comfortable life and volunteered to defend his adopted state. Seeing action in northwestern Virginia, the gulf states and the Army of Tennessee, Hermann's recollections take the reader on an incredible journey through the Confederacy at war, and gives an often unheard perspective on the era of Reconstruction and Yankee occupation. "When the Northern Army attempted on 21 July, 1861, to have a holiday in Richmond, the Capital of the Confederate States, we taught them a lesson at Manassas, and inscribed a page in history for future generations to contemplate". This hard back book is in very good condition, but does not have a dust jacket.
