This is a Plains Indians skull crusher from the late 1800's. It has an overall length of 22", with the stone being 2 1/2" long, 2" wide and oval in shape. The flexible wooden shaft is covered in rawhide and stitched together with sinew. This skull crusher does not have a wrist loop. The stone is most likely a type of river rock. The rawhide is tight to the shaft and the stone. The sinew is tightly stitched and unbroken. This is an absolute museum quality example of a Plains Indian skull crusher from the Indian wars period. It was formerly in the Ben Michele collection.
