Excavated Union General Service Button
Item #: AA2113
This is an excavated Union General Service button used during the Civil War. The button was recovered in Laurel County, Kentucky near the site of the Battle of Camp Wildcat. This small action took place on 21 October, 1861 when Union forces under the command of General Albin Schoepf met the Confederate forces under the command of Brigadier General Felix Zollicoffer. The small scale battle was considered a Union victory, as the result was that the Confederates withdrew from the Cumberland gap. This General Service button is in good condition, is of two piece construction and has a shank. The button is free of damage and the shank is still standing straight. It has achieved an absolute beautiful chocolate brown patina. This button would make a great piece for the beginning collector in your family!
