This is an Import Naval Cutlass made by an unknown manufacturer. The cutlass has an overall length of 34 1/2". The slighly curved blade measures 29 1/2" long, has a width of 1 1/8" at the guard, and has a 1/4" spine. The blade has no ricasso, fuller or false edge. The blade has a subdued steel gray patina, with some of the original bluing still on the blade. The edge has a couple of nicks. The blade has no stamps or any identification marks at all. For that matter, there are no marks on the sword anywhere. The guard, ferrule, and lions head pommel with back strap are all brass. The gilt on the outside of the guard and knuckle bow still have plenty of shine to it. The inner part of the guard, the quillion, and especially the back strap and pommel have taken on a muted bronze patina. The leather washer is no longer on the blade. The grip retains all of the original marine skin wrap, as well as the double strand wire. The wrap shows some wear from normal handling, but everything is still very tight to the grip. This one came in the shop missing the leather scabbard that goes with this style sword. This is a good looking example of an Import Naval cutlass very similar to the British P1827 Naval Cutlass.
