This book was written by Frank R. Donovan, published in 1964, the narrative is 149 pages and is illustrated with color drawings, black and white photos and drawings. The famous battle between the Monitor and the Merrimac at Hampton Roads, Virginia on 9 March, 1862, marked the end of one era in naval history and the beginning of another. It introduced the age of the ironclad, which was to rule the seas for something like eight years, but it was not so much the cause of the change as the announcement that the change had come. The Monitor and Merrimac were not he world's first ironclads, but they put on the world's first fight between ironclads, proving something that many naval experts already suspected as true, the day of the wooden warship was ended forever. This hard back book is in very good, used condition, with no dust cover.
