This is a pewter figurine from Andrew Chernak entitled "IRISH BRIGADE COLOR SGT". The pewter figure of a Union sergeant holding a regimental flag comes on an attractive oval wooden base that measures 4 1/4" by 3 1/4" and is approximately 7" tall. The figurine is highly detailed, depicting a Union sergeant from the 69th New York Infantry Regiment holding the regimental colors. He is standing, holding the colors with his right hand. His left hand is cupping his canteen. The color sergeant is wearing a kepi, 5 button sack coat, trousers and brougans. He holds the staff just below the colors that are fully unfurled. The flag has a banner over the Irish Harp that reads "1st REGt IRISH BRIGADE" and two streamers, one labeled "69th Regt NYSV". His kepi is done in great detail, having the number 69 pinned on the top. The color sergeant wears a sash with his waist belt. Hanging over his right shoulder is a haversack, canteen and cup. Over his left shoulder is his cartridge box complete with SNY plate. The figurine is marked on the back with the artist's signature Andrew L Chernak, a copyright mark and the date 1998. The limited edition run of 2500 shows this one to be number 385. A simple banner on the front with the inscription "IRISH BRIGADE COLOR SGT" describes the figure. The wooden base is signed by the artist on th back side of the wooden base in gold paint pen. It would make a great desk ornament or a decorator piece in your war room, perhaps the perfect birthday or Christmas gift!
