This is a one piece brass eagle flag staff finial from the Civil War era. The eagle is 6" high and 5" wide. The eagle's right wing is bent inward, apparently having been struck or dropped at some point in time. The eagle retains the majority of the gold gilt, with the exposed brass having a deep bronze patina. I can find no makers marks or stamps anywhere on this finial, but have no doubt it is from the Civil War era. Unfortunately I have no information as to where it came from. I found it in a box in the storage room of the new shop. Ol' Rebel can't remember anything about it, so there is no big story to go with it! It displays well, both sides used this style during the war, and it goes with any Civil War collection!
