This is a book about historic Gordonsville, Virgina written by WIlliam H.B. Thomas. It tells the story of a community from post Revolutionary tavern and stage coach days to the 1970 centennial of it's incorporation as a town. Nathaniel Gordon's tavern, a "good house" Thomas Jefferson called it, was also visited by President's Madison, Monroe and other famous guests. The Marquis de Lafayette was given a "warm welcome here. During the Civil War Gordonsville was an important rail center for Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia. In the 1870's and 80's Gordonsville became a thriving railroad town. The book brings the history of Gordonsville through the progress and the troubles of the twentieth century years to the centennial celebration in 1970.
