This is a #2 Oneida Victor double spring steel trap from the 1920's - 1940's. The Oneida Community Ltd. began making traps in the mid 1800's, and became the most successful producer of steel traps in the United States. In the 1920's the animal trapping business in Lititz, Pa. separated from the Oneida Community Ltd., and became know as the Animal Trapping Company of America. This trap was manufactured by the Animal Trapping Company during the 1920's - 1930's and measures 14" long. It is a double spring trap and was popular with fox, otter and beaver trappers. The entire trap has taken on a deep chocolate patina from years of storage in an old barn. The face of the pan is stamped "ONEIDA VICTOR No. 2 Animal Trap Co Lititz Pa". About 7 1/2" of the original 17" chain remain. This will make a cool decoration for the cabin or hunting lodge!
