This is a non excavated National Guard button from the Indian Wars period. This two piece button is cuff size and has the letters NG in old English script on the face. The back mark is Extra Quality. The face is dent free, no mars or blemishes. The letters are on a lined field, with NONSIBI SED PATRIE around the perimeter. This is a Latin phrase meaning "Not for self, but country". The majority of the gilt remains on the button. The shank is all still present and straight.
