GAR Cast Iron Slouch Hat Paperweight

This is a Grand Army of the Republic veterans souvenir in the form of a cast iron slouch hat to be used as a paperweight or desk decoration. The tiny hat measures 4" in length, 3 1/4" wide and is 1 1/2" tall. Cast into the hat are a hat cord, wreath and the letters GAR, all three painted gold. The remainder of the hat is black. On the inside of the hat is stamped PAT PEND with a representative image of the US Capital building. These were sold as souvenirs at both the 1902 and 1915 National Encampments held in Washington D.C., but this one is undated. This will make a great gift for the GAR collector in the family.
