This is a military style kepi from the Hill School Corp of Cadets from the early 1900's. It is constructed in the style of a Civil War kepi, even down to the Infantry horn pinned to the top. The Hill School is located in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. It was founded in May of 1851 by Reverend Matthew Meigs as a boarding school for boys and young men, the first of it's kind in the nation. Today it accepts boys and girls from across the world as high school students. Some famous alumni include Oliver Stone, James Cromwell, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump. The kepi is made of a dark blue wool material and is machine sewn throughout. There is no damage to the body of the kepi at all, all stitching is tight and unbroken. A hunting horn, insignia of the Infantry branch, is attached to the top of the kepi by wire hooks. Gold bullion lettering of HSCC within a gold border are sewn onto the front of the kepi. The black tarred visor is in great condition and securely attached to the kepi. A bullion rope chin strap is attached to the kepi via two buttons backmarked J.H. Wilson Phi.A. At the top the button is stamped THE HILL in an arc, at the bottom SCHOOL in an arc. In the center of the button are crossed rifles, with the letter C above and below the crossed rifles. The liner shows heavy wear, but the makers stamp is still clearly visible. This kepi was made by the Thomas Stuart Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The address of 339 Arch St in Philadelphia dates this kepi from 1897 to the early 1900's. The brown leather sweatband also shows lots of use, being split in two places, but still securely attached. A small tag on the left side of the sweat band shows the name Thaw and a possible date of 8/24. A little research may reveal the former owner of this great looking little artifact!
