This is am 1800's primitive made wrought iron ember carrier. The pan measures 7 1/2" wide by 6" deep. The pan is concave, to enable it to be used as a scoop to pick up the hot embers. The handle is 9 1/2" long and has a loop formed at the end. These were used to transport burning embers from one location to another to facilitate easier fire starting. This one was more than likely used in an out building, or possibly in a very early primitive cabin. It would make a nice fireplace decoration in your log home!
