This is a two piece Maryland State seal button from the Indian Wars period. The back mark is stamped N.Y. CLOTHING HOUSE/BALT'O MD. This maker was in business from 1881 through 1921. The two piece domed button is in very good condition. The majority of the gilt remains, but has taken on a dull gold patina except for the rim, which is still bright. The shank is present and stands straight and tall. This is a nice piece for your Maryland State Guard/Militia uniform that's missing a button!
