This is an early 1900's aluminum dipper. The handle is 11 1/4" long and the strainer is 3 3/4" across. The entire dipper is dark gray. It seems to be the unpainted, natural state of the aluminum. These were used in restaurants and home kitchens as well. if you grew up in the south during the 1900's you definitely remember these things. Mom or Grandma kept a dipper and a water jar or bucket handy for the men coming in from work, or those noisy kids outside playing!
