This is a Massachusetts Militia Coatee from the 1870's. It resembles the uniform jacket worn by the soldiers of the American Revolutionary War. The heavy dark blue wool material is in very good condition, having no tears, rips or insect damage at all. The buff twill material is in almost as good condition, having one small moth hole on the back of the collar. This buff colored material is used on the facings, collar, cuffs and skirt turnbacks. The front of the coatee is held closed by two hook and eye pieces. The coatee is fully lined, to include the sleeves. While the exterior of the coatee is in very good condition, the lining did not fare as well. Many panels have loose or missing stitching, and are pretty soiled and stained. There is one interior pocket, a horizontal pocket on the left inner breast. A makers label is still solidly sewn into the coat. It is black with gold thread and reads "Thomas J Olys/Boston" in cursive script. Now for the bad news, someone decided to remove every single button from the coat. On the other hand, if you happen to be holding onto 38 coat sized Massachusetts buttons from the 1870's then this is what you've been waiting for!
