This is a cast iron pot hanger from the late 1800's. These cooking implements were important for a cook that was serving up meals to a bunch of hungry cowboys, or soldiers, etc. These hooks allowed the cook to put different pots of beans, stew, chili or what ever he was cooking up for that meal, over the fire and be left unattended. While the would be dish simmered over the campfire Ol' Cookie was able to attend to other matters! This one measures 24" long. One end of the hook was made to slide over a rod that was suspended over the fire by two uprights. The other end has a hook to hang the pots from. One this is well used but in great condition. These make great additions to camp scenes from the Civil War, Indian Wars, all the way up to WWI. They also make great kitchen decorations!
