This is leather sling for carrying of a Civil War snare drum. The black leather two piece strap remains in very good condition. The overall length of the sling is 42", with the widest section of the strap measuring 3 1/2" across. The two pieces of leather are riveted to a brass ring, which also incorporates an iron hook to hang the drum from. The two section leather strap is secured by means of a single pin roller buckle. Instead of the usual brass stick carriage buckle, this sling uses two leather loops to secure the sticks. The brass capped Rosewood sticks measure 15" in length. There is no makers stamp or any other mark to identify this sling or it's maker. It is possible that this could be an imported piece. Everything else was imported at the beginning of the Civil War, why not a drum sling! If you have a Civil War musical collection, this piece will really help set it off!
