This is a Prussian made knife from the World War I era. This one does not have a makers mark, but is marked on the left side of the blade GESETZLICH/GESCHUTZEL/PRUSSIA. On each side of the stamp is a large X with XLNT in the four quadrants. The first two words mean "Protected by law", pretty much a copy right. These knives marked as such were produced from 1891 through 1915. The knife measures 11 1/4" overall, with a 6 1/2" blade. The carbon steel blade shows plenty of use and sharpening. The wood handles also show a lot of wear, but display well. I've seen these listed as trade knives and butcher knives. This one came into the shop with some German WWII items. So I don't know if this was someone's side knife or kitchen knife from the war! Either way, it looks good next to the 1916 transitional helmet it came in with!
