This is a non excavated Civil War era clay pipe with no manufacturers name on it. Clay pipes were very popular during the mid 1800's. They are regularly recovered in camp sites of both Union and Confederate armies. This one is white in appearance and measures 4 3/4" in length. The bowl is approximately 1 1/4" in depth and 7/8" across the opening. The bowl some simple decorations, incised lines around the perimeter of the bowl at the top and what appear to be feathers on the front and back side of the bowl. This little personal artifact can still be smoked! Many soldiers from both sides carried these and relaxed when they could with a good smoke. This would look perfect in a camp display or personal articles grouping.
