This is a shadow box containing a section of fuselage from a United States bomber that was based in Port Moresby, New Guinea during World War II. The shadow box measures 16" wide, 20" high and 1" deep. It contains two pieces of aluminum fuselage from an American bomber and a description of who recovered the artifact. One section measure 6" wide by 5 1/2" tall. The other section is 9 1/2' wide and 6" tall. The pieces of aluminum are painted OD Green and show a record of bombing missions, the total reflecting 8 missions. The narrative included reads: "PORTIONS OF BOMB MISSION MARKINGS FROM BOMBER FUSELAGE Collected by Walter Heckman Jr. Port Moresby, New Guinea WWII." Unfortunately it does not identify the type of aircraft it was recovered from or unit it flew with. There were over a dozen Army Air Force Bomber squadrons and groups at eight different airfield scattered around Port Moresby. They flew B-24 Liberators, B-25 Mitchells and the iconic B-17 Flying Fortress. In any case, this will make a great addition to any WWII Air Force collection.
