This is a US M2 Carbine stock manufactured by the Springfield Armory in Springfield Massachusetts. The Springfield Armory produced replacement stocks, but manufactured no carbines. This is a Type IV, low wood stock made of American Black Walnut in original, untouched condition. It measures 28 1/4" in length. The barrel channel measures 4 1/16". The bridge forward of the trigger housing has been removed, a modification identifying the M2 stock. The cut out for the M2 selector switch on the left side of the stock is also an M2 modification. The added support for the recoil plate has also been performed on this stock. The stock manufactures stamp of SA is found on the left side barrel channel. This is the only stamping on the entire stock. The wood is in good condition, having no cracks, wood loss or repairs. The stock has the retaining spring for the barrel band, recoil plate and butt plate. This stock most likely saw service in the Korean War and quite possibly Vietnam.
