This is an unmarked copper bodied powder flask from the mid 1800's. The flask measures 10 1/4" in length and 4 1/4" at it's widest part. The copper body cover is virtually dent free, one small crease is found near the spout. The copper has a very eye pleasing rich patina. The spout is graduated from 4 to 5 drams in 1/4 dram increments. I believe the top unscrews from the body to fill the flask with powder, but this one doesn't seem to want to budge. The small index pin for the spout is still present. The top is stamped on one side of the spout. It simply reads "PATENT", no maker mark, logo or anything else. This one did come into the shop with the James Dixon flask listed last week. The powder cutoff works perfectly. At one time there were four suspension rings on the flask, all four are missing. It's known that many southern boys went off to fight the war of Northern Aggression armed with shotguns and flasks just like this one. It shows some honest wear and a small dent, but displays great!
