This is a cased Model 1849 Pocket Colt 5 shot 31 caliber cap and ball revolver. The barrel has a single line ADDRESSCOL SAMl COLT NEW-YORK US AMERICA that is crisp and clear and measures 4" in length. The bore is bright, free of pitting and has very good rifling. All numbers match, including the wedge. Serial number 276328 put this one in a production date of 1865. The walnut grips retain about 90% of the original varnish. The Stagecoach cylinder scene is still very visible. There is scatter original bluing on the frame and barrel, while the remainder of the metal has a pleasing steel gray patina. The backstrap and trigger guard have no silverwash left. The have a matching golden patina. The left side of the frame is stamped COLT'S/PATENT while the back of the trigger guard on the left side is stamped 31 CAL. A sub inspectors stamp of G is found on the bottom of the back strap. The initials SBNH and something else are scratched into the bottom of the backstrap. The mechanics are strong, the cylinder indexes perfectly when the hammer is cocked. This revolver comes with COLT"S PATENT .31 caliber iron bullet mold, powder flask, a jappened tin of caps and 12 cast round balls. I believe that the case is from the 1960's and is lined in red felt. The case is 12 1/4" wide, 6" deep and 2" tall. The catch on the front works perfectly. The pistol alone is worth the asking price, so somebody jump on this one!
