This is a German Nazi Army armband from World War II. It is roughly 4 3/4" tall and 8 1/4" long. Made of yellow woven cotton, the armband has woven, black Gothic script in two lines. On the side facing out it reads "Deutsche Wehrmacht", meaning German Armed Forces. The top and bottom edges of the arm band have interwoven rows of reinforcement stitching. The back side of the band has a machine stitched vertical seam. The Army mobilization order of 12 March, 1937 introduced a wide variety of armbands that were worn to identify personnel performing specific duties or functions for the Armed Forces. Most of these armbands were worn on the left sleeve of uniformed or non uniformed personnel and were worn only while the individual was performing the specific duty or function identified by the armband. The "Deutsche Wermacht" armband was one of the armbands introduced with the Army mobilization order of 12 March, 1937 and was designed for wear by non uniformed personnel serving with the Armed Forces. This one still has very good color, all stitching is still strong. This is an good example of an early war armband!
