Maker Marked Federal Cap Box
Item #: AA1242

This is a Federal cap box manufactured during the American Civil War. The maker mark on the inside flap is visible but a little hard to read. In an oval stamp the makers name is at the top and NEW YORK is at the bottom. A little detective work could narrow this down to maybe one of two makers from New York. The leather on this pouch is very pliable. There is no crazing or flaking of the leather anywhere. The stitching is still very strong and has no breaks. The brass finial is present, the closure tab is still reporting for duty and is 100% intact! The two belt loops ha ve been reattached to the pouch. The top of the loops have been stitched on, while the bottom of the loops are held in the place by brass rivets. The wool and pick are long gone. The little box still displays great, and would be a nice addition to any Civil War display.
