This is a pair of Civil War era drummer boy's boots. The boots are 8 1/4" tall and measure 6" from the tip of the sole to the end of the heel. They are constructed in the style of the Cavalry enlisted man's boot. The leather is quality boot grade and the stitching remains tight and strong. There is a seam near the ankle where the front and rear halves of the boot were stitched together. There is also a row of stitching near the ankle that goes all the way around the back half to give the wearer additional support. The boots have pull straps sewn on to assist in getting these things on. The left boot has a small hole where the stitching has broke on the outer seam, just above the ankle. There is also a section where the seam has broke about 1/2" in length on the inside seam, also above the ankle. The sole has a leather patch on the toe of the left boot also. The right boot has a 1/2" section where the inside seam stitching is broken, just below the stitching for the inside pull strap. There is a small leather patch on the heel of this boot. The leather soles are pegged and the heels are attached by square nails, just like the regulations stated. These small flasw could be repaired by a competent sutler. If you happen to have a drummer boy collection these may be just what you need to round it out!
