This is an excavated Union General Service button that came into the shop recently from a local relic hunters collection. He was active in several Middle Tennessee relic hunters clubs and always hunted private property with the land owners permission. He has recently passed away and his widow has consigned some of his treasures with us. This knowledgeable gentleman kept meticulous notes with his relics, so as I list them I will be able to give almost exact locations where he discovered these relics. The first of many to come is a simple Union General Service button with a SCOVILL MFG CO Waterbury back mark. It is of two piece construction and has a shank. The button has a push in the back and the shank is leaning towards the top of the button. It has achieved an absolute beautiful chocolate brown patina. This button was recovered in September of 1985 along the Liberty Pike in Franklin, Tennessee from a Union camp established along that roadway. This button would make a great piece for the beginning collector in your family!
