WWII Enlisted 3rd US Army Air Force Wool Shirt

This is a World War II wool shirt belonging to an enlisted man from the 3rd Us Army Air Force. This light cotton shirt was the standard issue for enlisted men and had two pockets on the front and seven buttons down the front. The pockets and cuffs have one button each. The shirt is identified fro laundry purposes with the initials and service number of the soldier in three places. The inside collar is marked D5775, on the right inside seam of the front at the top it is marked HD 35355775 and at the bottom inner seam H DRAHOS. Sewn on the left sleeve is the 3rd Air Force patch above the insignia of a Staff Sergeant. The right sleeve has another Staff Sergeant insignia sewn on it. The 3rd US Army Air Force was established 26 March, 1941 at Tampa, Florida. The mission of the 3rd was to defend the Southeast region of the United States and the Gulf Coast region. Their mission changed to training role in 1942, being responsible for the training of bomber crews and groups of the medium and light variety, B-25 Mitchells, B-26 Marauders, A-20 Havocs and A-36 Apaches. They were also responsible for training fighter pilots, first in the P-39 and P-40's and in P-47 and P-51 fighters later in the war. Currently the 3rd Air Force is headquartered in Ramstein, Germany. They are responsible for supporting all operations in the US European Command and the US African Command. The shirt is in very good condition and has no stains, holes or rips. A quartermasters tag is still sewn in the shirt.
