This is a straight razor manufactured by George Wostenholm & Son's of Sheffield, England. The overall length of the razor is 9 1/2", with the scalloped blade measuring 5 1/4" long. Wostenholm manufactured razors at his Washington Works factory in Sheffield from 1848 - 1889. The blade has a dull silverish patina and is engraved with the lettering IXL inside a circle, within an oval engraving. It is also stamped in four lines "GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SON'S/CELEBRATED IXL RAZOR/WASHINGTON WORKS/SHEFFIELD". The black bone handles are in good condition, with one side having a small chip out of it on the bottom. This one is still sharp enough to shave with! This would make an excellent addition to your Civil War, Indian Wars, Spanish American and even World War I personal items display.
