Private Purchase Cavalry Boots
Item #: AA1093
This is a pair of private purchase Cavalry boots from the Civil War era. These are not the typical square toed boots, having a rounded point design instead. The lowers are made of two piece heavy leather construction, while the two piece uppers are made of a softer leather. The left boot has one small tear in the leather, on the rear seam at the very top of the boot approximately 1/4" long. The right boot has a two small holes in the upper section where the leather has creased. Neither hole is larger than a pencil eraser. Each boot has two cotton striped pulls that are securely attached to the upper boot leather. The heels and soles are both made of leather. The heels are stacked and are held together by nails and pegs. The soles are also held on with small nails and pegs. Both soles and heels show honest wear, but are complete and intact. These boots have a unique feature that sets them apart from the depot made military boots of the time. On each heel there is a small protrusion that acts as a rest for spurs. It is my opinion that these were some southern gentleman's riding boots before the war broke out and he just rode off with them when the war began. They are in very good condition and would set off any uniform display!
