Reproduction M1895 Prussian Officers Tunic
Item #: AA1056
This is a reproduction M1895 Prussian Army Officer's Tunic. The Waffenrock was the standard issue uniform for the German/Prussian Imperial Army from 1842 through 1907. It went through several variations, with this version being the last before the 1907 uniform was introduced. The tunic is made of blue doeskin wool. The stand up collar is red, along with the Swedish style sleeve cuffs. The rear vents and front of the coat opening are piped in red, all to denote the Infantry branch of service. The Litzen, or collar insignia, is silver and is identified as Glatte Litze. Government issue Waffenrock's were a dark blue, with private purchase uniforms being a slightly lighter shade of blue. This tunic is of the lighter shade, lending to the idea that this was an officer's tunic. The front of the jacket is single breasted and closed with 8 gold gilted buttons. There are a total of 18 21mm buttons on the tunic, 8 on the front, 2 on each cuff and 3 on each vent on the back of the tunic. The buttons are all back marked "Extra Fein". There are a couple of small moth holes, otherwise the outer fabric is undamaged. The tunic is fully lined in tow different types of material. The upper half of the tunic and sleeves are lined in white heavy weight cotton, while the lower part of the jacket is lined in a dark blue silk type material. An adjustable belt is sewn into the bottom of the cotton lining along the waist line, to allow the wearer a comfortable fit. The lining shows evidence of heavy use, and there are several repairs, and rips in both the cotton and silk lining. There are two pockets sewn into the left inner breast of the jacket. There are also pockets in the back of the jacket, accessed through the rear vents. The shoulder straps are no longer with the tunic, so there is no way of knowing what rank the owner was. Two makers stamps are inked onto the cotton lining and both read the same, "Zeugner & Riedel/Theater-u.Masken-Kostume/Halle a. S./Leipziger Strasse 61/62". The construction and material used to make this tunic tend to date it as early 1900-1910. The red cuffs show a little fading, while the red collar, piping and blue of the tunic still have very good color. This would make an excellent manequin display for the WWI collector out there!
