This is a hand crafted Confederate side knife with the original tin scabbard from the Civil War era. This beautifully crafted knife is 15" long. The spear point double edged blade measures 10" long and 1 3/4" wide. The blade has a very eye pleasing steel gray patina with some black age freckling scattered around. There is one small nick on one edge, both of which are still period sharp. There are file marks still visible on the blade. The cross guard is offset and made of iron. The full tang blade has a two piece wooden handle attached by three copper pins. The handles are very tight to the tang. Authentic Confederate knives are hard to come back, but finding one with the original tin scabbard is very scarce! The scabbard is made of a four piece construction. The scabbard itself is made of two pieces of tin soldered together to form a sheath. A third piece of tin has been soldered on to make a throat similar to a sword scabbard. The fourth part is a tin belt loop! This scabbard is nothing short of a work of art! The lead solder is as strong as the day it was made. These come come along very often, especially at this price. If you are a collector of Confederate blades this one will definitely complement the collection!
